Standing in 2012, Biri manufacturing counts as the second largest industry in India. Biri making is an agro-forest based cottage industry solely dependent on tendu Leaves and tobacco. Plucking of tendu leaves, their collection and storage engage a large number of families. Numerous others are associated with the cultivation of tobacco. In this manner the industry serves to provide livelihood to millions of people mostly from the lower socioeconomic strata.
With a production capacity of 110 million sticks of biri per day, Pataka is the largest biri manufacturing company in India. It is equipped with 502 biri brands that are among the highest selling brands in the country. It pledges to engage more and more workforce in this growing venture of theirs, so that they can carry forward the ambitions of more than 267,000 families across India.
